That left him behind and hung his gifts in front of him. For instance, when MM Sr. would phone his mother when his paternal grandmother invited him over for a visit, she would ask if he wanted to say hello to his son, to which he would respond no.

Fair enough, although I wouldn’t necessarily criticize her too harshly. It wasn’t her that left Em behind. I don’t know her, obviously, but she likely wanted to try to mediate a reconciliation between her dad and brother in addition to meeting Em.
Just my two cents, as someone with several half-siblings on both sides and a somewhat chaotic family history myself
Additionally, he might have been telling her lies about his reason for leaving that he was compelled to, or some other nonsense. I also had no idea that when they got married, he was 22 and Em’s mother was 15. The guy was a sick ass.
Laws and morality be damned, that was sadly the standard in those days, and it’s crap that they ingrained that nonsense in males who came after them. Today is the first time that the feces is truly considered forbidden.
From what I’ve found, Eminem and Sarah didn’t know they were related until he became famous. There have been attempts to reconnect, but their relationship remains distant. It seems like they’ve struggled to build a strong bond.
